For those of you who use or would like to use Visual Studio, Microsoft has made Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition available for free. It doesn't come with the team development tools that the paid versions do and there are some other minor limitations, but you can add plugins and whatnot to it, which you can't do with Visual Studio Express.
Syncfusion also has made Syncfusion Essential Enterprise Community edition available. I'm not sure if you can actually find it anywhere on their site unless you search for it, but the link to it is http://www.syncfusion.com/products/communitylicense It is 100% free and contains over 650 controls usable in C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, WPF, WinForms, mobile, etc. etc.
Both the Visual Studio 2013 Community and Syncfusion Community are primarily for individual developers or small companies that can't justify the thousands of dollars those tools cost.
I think this is a great initiative for developers like myself who might use this stuff a little bit if I didn't have to pay thousands of dollars for it, which I just can't justify based on how much, or as the case may be: little, I use it.
